What Is Short Deck Poker?
Short Deck Poker (also known as Six Plus Hold'em) is a variation of traditional Texas Hold'em, with a few key differences that significantly change the game's dynamics.
Key Differences Between Short Deck and Regular Hold'em
Short Deck uses most of the same rules as regular Texas Hold’em, but with the following notable changes:
1. Shortened Deck
-
All 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s are removed from the deck.
-
The deck consists of 36 cards, ranging from 6 to Ace.
-
This increases the likelihood of stronger hands and more frequent action.
2. Hand Rankings Are Adjusted
-
A Flush beats a Full House in Short Deck.
-
This is the reverse of traditional Hold’em hand rankings.
-
Reason: With fewer cards, flushes are harder to make than full houses.
-
3. Lowest Straight Is Different
-
The lowest possible straight is: A-6-7-8-9
-
This replaces the traditional A-2-3-4-5 straight, which is not possible without 2–5 in the deck.
-
Summary of Rule Changes
